EMBARKING OCTIRI 17TH-19TH
The Fifth Expedition is remembered not for what was found, but for what was revealed.
When three Celestrians - Yvaine Stanbury, Cordelia Lochlainn, and Celestine Stanbury - turned the Godstongue sword skyward in the Eternal Lands, they made the annals of history forever. The illusory fabric of the heavens split open like torn silk by their hand, revealing that the Second Moon hung over the skies of the Eternal Lands.
In Roera, celebrations have erupted across the continent. Citizens speak of nothing but the discovery, their voices bright with wonder. The mailboxes in the Spire overflow with letters commending each of the Awakened heroes, expressing unwavering belief in your triumph.
They say we should celebrate.
We should remember this victory.
But victory came at a cost. Stancyzk and Hadden died during the Fifth Expedition. Neither has returned. Their factions wait - some with hope, others with growing dread. Death in the Eternal Lands has seemed impermanent... but their continued absence speaks to something darker. The Council has determined that they must be found, dead or alive, this Expedition. Shiori will serve as de facto mission lead, given her field experience, with support from the faction liaisons.
We should remember this triumph and our fallen comrades.
But what if we’ve already forgotten something just as important?
Each of you has begun to notice something wrong. Sometimes you remember that there's a gap. A hole where memory should be. About two weeks ago, there is... nothing. You can feel it, that absence, clean and surgical, as if a week was simply excised from your mind.
But then you blink. You turn away. And suddenly the missing time doesn't seem to matter anymore. You forget you were even looking for it. Hours later - or is it days? - the awareness crashes back. You remember that you forgot. The cycle repeats, maddening and inescapable.
The citizens of Roera are trapped in the forgetting. They do not feel the missing time because they do not know to look for it. When it's mentioned, the knowledge slips away within moments, their minds sliding away from the void like water off glass. They speak only of the Second Moon, of celebrations, of discovery. Of their worry for the heroes Stancyzk and Hadden. They do not notice the contradiction - mourning the lost while celebrating the found, all while a week bleeds silently from their minds.
But you keep breaking through. The remembering comes in waves, unbidden and unwelcome. You know something was taken. And in those moments of clarity, questions burn in your mind:
What happened in those stolen hours?
And who, or what, doesn’t want you to remember that time?
[PLOT NOTE: You are remembering and forgetting that you are missing approximately a week of time: Octiri 3-10. That week is a maximum estimate; you are not sure exactly how much time you are missing. You can roleplay the extent of how much this affects your character as much or little as you wish].
