A reflection on "The Calling"
All your life you have been lied to. You have been presented with the illusion of separation. Someone has woven stories that you are apart from another because of the distance the world keeps you at. Someone has tried to convince you that the blood in other's veins, the words from their voice and the shadow of history keeps them apart from you. Someone has pointed out that the thoughts in your mind make no sound outside of your head and are evidence of the isolated soul you are. But you have been lied to. You have been convinced that the pain in your body, the ache in your heart and the sorrow in your thoughts are proof of your wretched mortality. That all you are is merely a phenomena of psychical material given breath and that before the mystery of anything beyond that you must bow in abject awe and deference. So that you must not question, resist or endeavor save when it pleases things you are convinced are "beyond" you. But you have been lied to.
The delusion you experience that the sky is as high as you may understand and the ground at your feet is a firmament that holds up existence has been fed and encouraged in you. The thoughts you have that there may be more to existence than this has been ridiculed into silence, or drowned out by tall tales meant to make you dismiss such notions as flights of fancy. That neither is there anything beyond this world, nor that any other world may be watching you from beyond the sky or the earth. But you have been lied to. When you desire to fulfill your satisfactions these desires are encouraged. Your tendency to pride is venerated. When you crave for material things, that hunger is stoked. And whenever the notion rises that you might be vainglorious, thoughtless or evil, those criticisms are dismissed with excuses. But you have been lied to. You have lived in a story that has cradled you all your life. You are made to fear things that cannot harm you so that you never wonder what truly will. You have been lead to focus on things have no meaning so that you will never ask questions that are truly dangerous. You have been shaped to find excuses for bloodshed, cruelty and corruption because you don't see what lies at the end of their path is not what you truly set out to do. You have been lulled into being soft spoken, weak, cowardly, witless, and blind prey. And when the moment comes that self reflection does bring you to darker thoughts of yourself All in the hopes that you never ask who, or what, might want you this way. And when the moment comes you glimpse that there is something wrong you are encouraged to ascribe the meaning of that to be that there is something wrong with you. And whatever terrible conclusion you arrive at of what kind of person you are, you are pressed into believing that is all you can be. Because all of your life you have been lied to.
